A clearer way to manage projects

Project teams need a clear boundary between the authorized plan and later exceptions. SERP supports project budgets and requests alongside purchasing, material movements, inspections and project billing. Its project extension, CRM projects and accounting dimensions serve different purposes and should be selected deliberately.

What is projects in SERP?

SERP is an integrated ERP/business management platform from Sybel Micro Solutions. Its projects capabilities support the operational records, inquiries and authorized actions described below. Teams can follow a requirement through the relevant business records instead of interpreting isolated status updates. Availability depends on enabled company functions and the user’s role.

Key capabilities

Project and budget setup

Maintain the project, tags and permitted users. Establish preapproved budgets and item or category budgets before downstream requests. The budget provides the context for discussing planned materials and costs; it does not by itself authorize every purchase or later scope change.

Requests and changes

Use material requests, budget change requests and additional expense requests for their intended purposes. Item comparison and budget inquiries help users examine the planned requirement before asking for more material. Explicit exception records preserve the reason for a change instead of silently replacing the original expectation.

Purchasing and materials

Continue through the project purchasing, transfers and item-issue workflows as applicable. Keep the project context when reviewing outstanding orders and supplier invoices. Material requested, purchased, received and issued are separate stages that should be reconciled when investigating project consumption.

Billing and analysis

Project invoices, inspections, contract change requests and payment requests have their own entry or inquiry functions. Accounting dimensions support financial analysis on eligible transactions. Confirm whether a report filters by project records or dimensions; the two are not interchangeable identifiers.

Putting the workflow into practice

A contracting team can compare requested items with an approved budget before procurement. A project controller can review an additional material request as an exception. Finance can use the appropriate project invoice or dimension context to investigate financial activity without confusing the project extension with CRM relationship work.

Permissions and review points

The Projects extension is optional. Approval Level Settings determine its approval flow, while closed dimensions can restrict posting in relevant accounting contexts. Review project-user access and financial authority separately before defining the working roles.

Questions to bring to your demo

Bring a representative projects requirement and the roles involved. Start with the source record, follow the next transaction and examine the resulting inquiry. Ask the team to show the relevant validation, approval and exception handling with your expected company and location context. This makes it possible to assess the workflow against how your organization actually works.

Review both routine activity and a realistic exception. Identify who enters information, who reviews it and who confirms the final result. Agree which inquiry or report establishes completion, and check the underlying references. This approach creates a useful implementation discussion without assuming that every optional function is already enabled.

Define a reliable handoff between teams

Use the workflow above to agree the reference that passes from one team to the next. The next person should know what the previous action establishes, which details still need review and which record will confirm the result. Retain the company, date and relevant party or item context when investigating a difference. This makes an exception easier to explain than a separate message with no transaction reference.

During implementation, compare the intended procedure with the available entry and inquiry screens. Test a complete record, an incomplete record and a role that should not perform the action. Where approval applies, review pending and completed outcomes separately. The objective is to establish the operating boundaries and evidence of completion for the actual configuration your team will use.
