A clearer way to manage finance & accounting

Finance needs both summarized balances and the transactions behind them. SERP supports a structured chart of accounts, journals, budgets, accruals and financial inquiries, with operational links to customer and supplier activity. Consistent period, currency and dimension choices help users compare reports on a meaningful basis.

What is finance & accounting in SERP?

SERP is an integrated ERP/business management platform from Sybel Micro Solutions. Its finance & accounting capabilities support the operational records, inquiries and authorized actions described below. Teams can follow a requirement through the relevant business records instead of interpreting isolated status updates. Availability depends on enabled company functions and the user’s role.

Key capabilities

Accounts and classification

Maintain account classes, groups and accounts in a defined hierarchy, with tags where useful. Review currencies, exchange rates, quick entries and system default accounts before posting. Dimensions provide analytical context on supported forms, while closed dimensions can prevent transactions from being processed.

Balanced journals

Enter a dated reference, explanation and account lines with debit or credit values. Review any required subledger and tax-register context. Total debits must equal total credits. SERP blocks unbalanced entries, invalid periods and other validation failures; banking functions are used for bank accounts rather than journal entry.

Budgets and period activity

Budget Entry and revenue/cost accruals have separate forms. Period closing and currency revaluation are controlled financial operations. Maintain the distinction between reviewing a prior-period report and changing the company fiscal configuration, particularly when preparing historical comparisons.

Statements and drilldowns

Use trial balance, balance-sheet and profit-and-loss drilldowns alongside GL and journal inquiries. Check dates, fiscal year, dimensions and currency when comparing totals. A drilldown gives the reviewer a way to investigate the transaction detail behind a balance instead of accepting a summary without context.

Putting the workflow into practice

A finance reviewer can investigate a balance by opening the relevant ledger detail. Receivables and payables teams can preserve customer and supplier settlement context through their dedicated workflows. Management can compare financial statements for the same period and dimensions while keeping budget or accrual activity separate from report display.

Permissions and review points

Only journals originally created through journal entry are directly editable in that workflow. Closed fiscal dates, invalid exchange rates and unbalanced entries block processing. Posting, approval and closing permissions should reflect financial responsibility, with bank transactions handled through the appropriate banking functions.

Questions to bring to your demo

Bring a representative finance & accounting requirement and the roles involved. Start with the source record, follow the next transaction and examine the resulting inquiry. Ask the team to show the relevant validation, approval and exception handling with your expected company and location context. This makes it possible to assess the workflow against how your organization actually works.

Review both routine activity and a realistic exception. Identify who enters information, who reviews it and who confirms the final result. Agree which inquiry or report establishes completion, and check the underlying references. This approach creates a useful implementation discussion without assuming that every optional function is already enabled.

Define a reliable handoff between teams

Use the workflow above to agree the reference that passes from one team to the next. The next person should know what the previous action establishes, which details still need review and which record will confirm the result. Retain the company, date and relevant party or item context when investigating a difference. This makes an exception easier to explain than a separate message with no transaction reference.

During implementation, compare the intended procedure with the available entry and inquiry screens. Test a complete record, an incomplete record and a role that should not perform the action. Where approval applies, review pending and completed outcomes separately. The objective is to establish the operating boundaries and evidence of completion for the actual configuration your team will use.
